Law Business Strategist.
Hi, I’m Anne-Marie Rábago, and I’m the founder of Modern Juris.
Like so many lawyers I’ve talked with over the years, I went into law because I wanted to help people. When I became a lawyer, I found a wholly unhealthy profession, a divisive culture of competition, an entirely unsustainable business model, and a broken promise of “equal justice under law.” I worked within the system for more than a decade, and I am now on a personal and professional mission to help the legal profession – and all the people it touches.
WON’T YOU JOIN ME?
Modern Juris is a community of creative, purpose-driven individuals who want to make a difference in this world through our system of laws and justice.
Prior to founding Modern Juris in 2020, I directed the Texas Opportunity & Justice Incubator (TOJI) at the State Bar of Texas. I led TOJI from its April 2017 launch and quickly scaled the program to become the largest legal incubator in Texas (possibly the world). In 2019, we expanded statewide and transitioned to virtual delivery. In its first three years, TOJI served 69 Texas lawyers to help start and build 72 solo, small, and nonprofit firms spanning 35 areas of law serving low- and modest-income Texans.
Prior to TOJI, I directed the Access to Law Initiative, a legal incubator at California Western School of Law (CWSL). In addition, I taught Federal Income Tax at CWSL, Taxation of the Business Entity at University of California San Diego Extension, and Introduction to Taxes for the Solo/Small Firm Attorney for Solo Practice University®.
In 2009, I started Rábago Business & Tax Law, APC, and over the following seven years, I advised hundreds of small business owners, including other solo and small firm attorneys, on tax and legal compliance matters. For this work, I was named a San Diego Super Lawyers® Rising Star in 2016 and 2017.
After completing my JD at California Western School of Law, I earned an LLM in Taxation from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. I am licensed to practice law in California and Texas.
Before stepping into the legal industry, I held various professional roles including fundraising for two regional theatre companies, sales management for an international retail chain, recruiting and corporate training for a Fortune 100 financial services company, and international tax consulting for a big-4 public accounting firm.
In my spare time, I am an avid craft beer enthusiast and enjoy world travel adventures with my husband.
